I'm So Grateful!

I have amazing people in my life. Examples of these amazing people:

1. My friends planned a surprise dinner and then took me to a great Midlake concert for my birthday.
2. I've been sick. My mom has come to bring me food/medicine twice in the last week. One of my friends just called to see if I wanted her to bring me anything on the way home from work.
3. I have a friend who has been traveling around South America for months who took time out to call me and check in on me. I wasn't able to answer, but she said she's been reading my blog. Hi, Elizabeth!
4. I have lots of friends coming to help me paint rooms in my house next weekend to get it ready to put on the market. How great is that?

This is a picture of all of us at the Midlake Concert.

I've been doing a lot of work in my yard lately. I have to sell my house which makes me very sad. I love my house. I love the yard. I especially love that my dog loves the backyard. Sometimes it is very easy to let myself wallow in that sadness, instead of being excited to start over. So one of the ways that I try to stay excited about moving into an apartment is by looking at great ways to decorate my new place. My favorite place to go is http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/. It's great! You decorating types may enjoy exploring this website.

Confessions of the Sunflower Kid

I'm bored. My kids are taking a test. I have so much more I could be doing with my time, but instead I have decided to let you all get to know me a little better and so here are some ...

Confessions of the Sunflower Kid...

1. I like the smell of my dog's feet... they smell like popcorn and mown grass... does this make me weird?

2. I could eat zingers for breakfast everyday. For those of you unfortunate souls who have never experienced their glory, zingers are basically a twinky that has this totally artificially colored yellow icing on top. They are so gloriously bad for you.

3. I have seen Forest Gump and You've Got Mail more times than I would like to count. I just always have to watch them when they come on tv... it's like Tom Hanks takes control of my brain.

Ok... enough procrastinating... back to grading.

New iPod, glass of champagne, and a movie

I've been trying very hard to keep myself busy on the weekend nights. Well, it just so happens that for the first time in months, I don't have plans on a Saturday night. I decided to make tonight a celebration of the fact that I'm okay with that. So here I am with my new iPod, a glass of champagne, and a movie.

SPLURGE!!!

I've been trying to reconnect with things that make me happy through this blog. One thing that I don't have to reconnect with, though, is music. I L-O-V-E my music collection. I have been lugging around my 2nd generation brick/dinosaur of an iPod for 5 years now. Yes, it was often the butt of jokes (especially by my students), but, hey, it worked. My iPod and I have been through quite a bit together: sprint triathalon training, graduate school study sessions, lots of party play lists, classroom setups and takedowns, lots of time reading on the beach. Well, last weekend it finally bit the dust.

RIP Old iPod
Hello New iPod Touch

I have a hard time spending large sums of money on myself, but I have decided that this is one area where I'm going to go all out and buy myself the top o' the line iPod touch because, well, I totally deserve it, and it's almost my birthday so yeah, happy birthday to me (a couple weeks early). Today, after work, I will be purchasing this:

YEEHAW!

I had a great surprise today... a group of my friends have been scheming behind my back for my birthday. I love how people come out of the woodwork to support you when you need it. So I have been told to keep my birthday night open for these secret plans.

Other happenings:
1. The first daffodils have started blooming in my yard. Yea for spring!

2. A student drew this on a quiz this week... You may be asking yourself, "is that a six-legged octopus wearing a robinhood hat and glasses?" Why, yes, yes I think it is. Perhaps the better question is, what happened to its other legs? Tragic octopus table saw accident? Octopus birth defect? Maybe he gave them to the poor octopuses in the Sherwood Forest? And yes, that is the plural of octopus; I just googled it.

3. Two of my best teacher friends who thought they were not coming back next year have since changed their minds ... I'm so excited to get to teach with them both another year. This makes me more optimistic about my next year.
